Vista Point VANCOUVER Canada

Vista Point VANCOUVER Canada

Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada and one of the most beautiful on the American continent, a dynamic metropolis set in a beautiful location with a temperate climate throughout the year.

Close to the harbour area the city's skyscrapers have proliferated in recent years. The capital of the southwestern province of British Columbia has developed into an economic centre of renown.

The city's oldest buildings were built less than a hundred years ago because the former wooden houses of old Vancouver were destroyed by fire. Several buildings reflect the origin of their inhabitants and are similar to those in the United States and Europe.

Inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, an elegant structure of pink stone and glass, Canada Place, is located in the busy centre of the new harbour district and is also the city's most recent landmark. Close by is Harbour Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a one hundred and sixty seven-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbour and bay is overwhelming.

The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.

For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou in China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.

Everything in Vancouver is youthful, attractive and dynamic, a place in which Canadian politeness unites with the Pacific way of life!

CANADIAN ROCKY MOUNTAINS

In Canada's Rocky Mountains, in the centre of the five largest National Parks in the world, lies the idyllic city of Jasper and a gigantic conservation area which covers 20,000 square kilometres, a large ecosystem in which the treasures of nature and the cultural roots of North America's Native Indians are cherished and preserved.

The Jasper Tramway travels into the fantastic mountain world of the Rockies and the grandiose panorama from the summit of Mount Whistler gives an awesome first impression of this majestic mountain region. Whistler Road winds through fields of stones whose barren wastes are like those of a strange planet and the route opens up into a landscape which existed when the earth was in its infancy.

Deep into the heart of this magical world the journey leads to the Icefield Parkway past huge forests with tracks leading nowhere, of which only the indigenous Indians and the woodland animals are familiar with the terrain.

On a plain which extends 300 square kilometres, the Columbia Ice Fields includes Mount Columbia which rises 4,000 metres toward the heavens. Experienced mountain guides explain this wonder world of nature.

Lake Louise is probably the most famous of Canada's mountain lakes and is located at the foot of the 3,464 meter tall Mount Victoria. The chateau Lake Louise was built by the Canadian Pacific Railroad in1886. Far from civilisation and the hectic pace of city life, it offers a good level of service and comfortable accommodation.

Canada's icy wilderness offers majestic mountains, deep green lakes and mighty glaciers and all the excitement and adventure of Nature's final frontier.

Nature Wonders - CANADIAN ROCKY MOUNTAINS Canada

The most spectacular sights in the Canadian Rocky Mountains are to be found mainly in its Northern region.

Over the course of millions of years it was here that a unique and fascinating world of stone developed, abundant with natural beauty and awesome power. From the top of these mountains there's a breathtaking panorama of surrounding peaks, glaciers and never ending valleys of stone.

With unfettered power and in a wild cascade the freezing molten ice of the glacier runs through narrow gorges until it finally reaches the valleys below. Even the most massive of these ancient rocks was unable to prevent the relentless journey of the molten ice. The rivers pass beautiful dark forests that contain an immense variety of wildlife.

Vista Point HALIFAX Canada

Vista Point HALIFAX Canada

Halifax is part of Canada's federal state of Nova Scotia. The peninsula has a population of 333,000 and it is the country's oldest British settlement yet has managed to retain all the charm and tranquillity of a small town.

After Sydney, Halifax has the second largest harbour in the world and is one of the region's few harbours that is free from ice throughout the year.

Lobsters, oysters, mussels and fish soup are but a few of the menu items that appear in the seafood restaurants of the Atlantic District.

The Maritime Museum covers the history of the fishing industry on Canada's Atlantic coastline and also the history of navigation. Boats and small models illustrate the development of ship-building and include great seafarers and many remarkable exhibits.

In 1917 two ships collided in Halifax Harbour. This led to an explosion that destroyed half the city when two thousand people perished and nine thousand were injured. In April 1912 the loss of the supposedly unsinkable passenger ship, the Titanic, was caused to its collision with an iceberg and it was from Halifax that the rescue ships embarked.

The famous train, The Ocean, embarks from close to the harbour and its impressive stainless steel carriages date back to the 1950's.

Halifax is an historic city set in a country with a vast and amazing landscape, a flamboyant metropolis that unites the past with the present day.
